Antique Nippon Hand Painted Trinket Box

A small, round porcelain lidded box with a creamy white finish. Intricate gold floral patterns and scrolling vine motifs cover the lid and body. The gilding has a slightly raised, textured feel against the smooth porcelain. Hand Painted Nippon Lidded Trinket Box. 1910s. Gold floral decoration. Porcelain. Measures about 2.5" in height by 2.5" wide. Very good condition. Does have what feels like old sticker on it. It does come off but you have to work at it. I left it as is.

This exquisite porcelain trinket box is a refined relic from the 1910s, bearing the craftsmanship that made Nippon porcelain globally renowned. The piece features a soft, ivory-toned glaze that serves as a subtle backdrop for the heavy gold ornamentation. The hand-painted decoration is remarkably detailed, consisting of swirling vines and delicate floral clusters rendered in a bright, lustrous gold. This era of Japanese export porcelain is celebrated for its ability to blend Eastern production techniques with Western aesthetics, resulting in pieces that were staples of sophisticated turn-of-the-century vanities.

The petite dimensions and ornate gilding make this a natural fit for a Victorian or Art Deco interior. It is the perfect vessel for housing a single precious ring or as a decorative accent on a mirrored tray. Its classic palette allows it to integrate seamlessly into a Minimalist setting as a singular point of historical interest or to flourish within a Bohemian & eclectic collection of antique ceramics. The box remains in very good condition, with the original lid fitting securely. It currently carries a bit of its history in the form of a small, aged residue from a previous owner's label, which has been left intact to preserve the antique finish but could be carefully lifted with patience.

This item is antique, approximately 115 years old. All measurements are close but approximate. I measure in quarter inches.
