Oriental Stitching on Silk Wall Hanging. Measures about 26 3/4 by 14 3/4". Design on silk appears to be in excellent condition. I did not take it out of the frame to investigate further. The wooden frame has a few scuffs. The paper backing will need to be replaced.
This vintage Oriental wall hanging is a beautiful example of traditional silk embroidery, showcasing the refined "theatrical" shimmer that only natural silk fibers can provide. Measuring approximately twenty-six and three-quarter inches by fourteen and three-quarter inches, the piece features a detailed hand-stitched composition on a delicate silk ground. The embroidery utilizes a sophisticated palette of threads to create a textured, three-dimensional effect that catches the light from various angles.
The silk design is in excellent vintage condition, appearing remarkably well-preserved behind the glass. The piece is housed in its original wooden frame, which remains structurally sound but shows a grounded patina of use, including a few surface scuffs that could be easily refreshed. To ensure the long-term preservation of the delicate silk, the paper backing will need to be replaced by the new owner. This wall hanging is a sophisticated accent for a collection of Asian art, a Mid-Century Chinoiserie-inspired room, or anyone seeking a high-quality textile piece with an authentic, aged character.
This item is vintage, approximately 40 years old.
