Vitnage Hand Carved Tarascan "Demon" Mask Wall Hanging. Mascera Diablo Luzbel. Measures about 9" in height by 11.5" wide with the horns. The horns are held in by the hanging rope, they come out. There is a scrape on the nose. Otherwise very good condition.
This is a stunning and powerful example of Mexican folk art: a vintage hand-carved wooden mask from the Tarascan (Purépecha) people of Michoacán. Representing "Diablo" or "Luzbel" (the Devil), this mask is intricately painted with bold, vibrant colors. It features striking details, including two snakes framing the mouth which opens to reveal a "tigre" (jaguar/tiger) head within. The mask measures approximately 9 inches tall and 11.5 inches wide with its removable red horns. This piece is in very good vintage condition, with the exception of a noticeable scrape on the nose.
This mask is a fantastic acquisition for a collector of Mexican folk art, tribal art, or unique and dramatic wall decor. It serves as a compelling cultural statement piece for a gallery wall, a study, or any eclectic interior space.
This item is vintage, being over 40 years old. While it is in very good condition, please note the scrape on the nose as pictured. There may be other minor imperfections that I missed.
